No one single behavior defines sex addiction. When compulsivity has taken control of the addicts life and it has become unmanageable the behaviors include; excessive masturbation, compulsive heterosexual and/or homosexual relationships, prostitution, sexting, indecent phone calls, exhibitionism, rape, voyeurism, incest, and/or violence. It is important to know that sex addiction does not always lead to sexual offense. Sexual addiction is often accompanied by other addictions and past trauma. This afflicts people from childhood to late adulthood. This is an issue for men and women and an estimated 3 – 5% of Americans are afflicted with sexual addiction. Often times, restricting, binge-purge behaviors, and over eating are accompanied by other addictions or compulsive behaviors.
